Chestnut tree

 

The multiplication of the chestnut is carried out in its major part by layering. We multiply hybrid varieties resistant to Phytophtora, like Marigoule (CA 15, M15) or Bouche de Bétizac.

Each year these mothers trees produce young growths which we ring during May, then that we short props with ground throughout the season. The seedlings produced are then taken in the current of the next winter.

These one year old layered seedlings (layered -1/0) are mended in seedbed one year more (layered -1/1) to confer to them a better capacity of acclimatization on the orchard.
